The Six Branches

Each branch of the Discerning Disciples curriculum covers a distinct theme, guiding pupils from EYFS through to Year 6 in their journey of faith.

Branch 1

Creation and Covenant

God made me. God loves me.

Explore the foundational Christian belief that every person is created by God and loved unconditionally. This branch covers the Creation story in Genesis, Adam and Eve, stewardship of creation, the dignity of the human person, and the covenant relationship between God and His people. Pupils learn that the world is a gift shaped by God's love and that every person has inherent dignity.

Branch 2

Prophecy and Promise

God keeps His promises.

Journey through Advent and the Annunciation, exploring how God chose Mary to become the mother of Jesus. This branch covers the angel Gabriel's message, Mary's trust in God, the promise of salvation, and how God acts in human history. Pupils discover that Jesus' birth is part of God's loving purpose for the world and learn about the virtues of trust and courage.

Branch 3

Galilee to Jerusalem

Jesus came for everyone.

Follow Jesus' ministry from Galilee to Jerusalem, exploring the birth of Jesus and God's deep love for all people. This branch covers the Incarnation, Jesus' teachings, miracles, and how He shows God's love by being present, helping, and drawing near to those in need. Pupils learn that God's love is both personal and universal.

Desert to Garden

Growing closer to God.

Experience the Lenten journey from desert to garden, exploring themes of repentance, growth, and the Paschal Mystery. This branch covers Lent as a time of preparation, the symbolism of purple and growing seeds, almsgiving and prayer, and the death and Resurrection of Jesus. Pupils learn about interior change, care for others, and the hope of new life.

Ends of the Earth

Sharing God's love with the world.

Explore the missionary call of the Church and how followers of Jesus are called to share God's love to the ends of the earth. This branch covers Pentecost, the early Church, the work of missionaries, and how Catholics today continue to spread the Gospel through word and deed.

Meeting God in others.

Discover how Catholics are called to respectful dialogue and meaningful encounter with people of different faiths and backgrounds. This branch covers interfaith understanding, the dignity of every person, and how meeting others can deepen our own faith and build a more just world.
